Virginia Brown, LCSW
Following the death of her daughter at a self-help retreat in 2009, she founded SEEK Safely, Inc., a 501©3 charity, to educate the public about self-help and promote safe and ethical practices in the self-help industry.
As a result of this tragedy that created international coverage, she has been involved in numerous interviews and media productions in the US and UK. Using her skills and past experience to spread the mission of SEEK, Virginia is committed to educating others and bringing change to the self-help industry.
Having received her MSW in 1993 from the Adelphi School of Social Work and her LCSW from New York State, Virginia provides individual and family therapy through her Private Practice in Westtown, NY. (LCSW #075258 NYS)
Her experience includes:
- Program Development
Developed curricula and workbooks for a variety of parenting programs.
Wrote “MAAP: Managing Anger and Aggression Program” for adults; “Putting the Pieces Together,” a 15 session parenting program for DSS clients; “The Powerful We: A Marriage Enrichment Program,” Wrote and delivers a sexuality seminar for teens and their parents. Presently teaching, “Creating Change Now!” Workshop and giving the “Self-Help: Solution or Scam?” presentation at human resource conferences.
- Facilitation and Training
Facilitated parenting groups; school faculty and agency staff trainings; small and large audiences seeking to develop an understanding of conflict resolution, effective communication skills, and healthy family dynamics. Conducted training for others to teach and facilitate.
- Public Speaking
Given keynote addresses, commencement speeches, large and small group presentations. Conducted marriage seminars and retreats.
- Currently on the faculty for Driven Professionals, a networking group in NYC providing wellness seminars and skills training for men and women professionals. Last year, Virginia teamed up with two FBI agents to explore the profile of those who scam others on the Internet, in business and in the human growth movement for the Driven Professionals community.
Virginia (Ginny) Brown is available to give seminars and workshops concerning personal growth, resilience following personal tragedy, living and learning through grief, and how to achieve real, sustainable change based on scientific research.
