Birthdays should always be celebrated, even if the person is no longer here… their presence, life, influence, spirit remains with those who loved and were loved by the person being remembered. Join us on February 8th, at 8pm ET on Zoom for a live Toast to Kirby. If you can’t join us then, you can still toast on your own time, of course, and share photos or videos if you wish!
For a few years now, we’ve been celebrating Kirby’s birthday with a toast. We’ve always invited people to share their memories and pictures or videos of their celebration with us on Facebook or Instagram. We’ve even had special musical performances in honour of Kirby.
Last year’s Toast was the last time I went to a restaurant before the pandemic started shutting things down in Canada. I’m so grateful for that celebration with my friends, people who only knew Kirby through my memories.
It’s a bit sad not to have a similar celebration this year, but then again, we’ve learned new ways to connect as we’ve had to adapt in this strange time. I’m excited for our virtual celebration, to connect with friends and family, sharing laughs and memories. As I’ve noted before, I think Kirby would really love that we do this each year, and I think she’d be especially excited for this year’s version when we will share this moment together, even as we’re all far away from one another.
